Funeral Home: Kerr-Parzygnot Funeral Home (Map-it)

Visitation: Memorial gathering Saturday, December 2, 2023, from 10AM until mass at 10:30AM
Service Date: 12/02/2023
Service Time: 10:30AM
Place of Service: St Veronica Catholic Church (formerly I.J.P.) 1131 Douglas, Flossmoor, IL (Map-it)
Cemetery: Assumption Cemetery 19500 S Cottage Grove, Glenwood, Illinois (Map-it)

Rosario T. Chi, the only daughter of Angelita Lim, was born on September 28, 1944 in the Philippines. She was a woman whose life embodied laughter, joy, food and an unwavering devotion to God, family and friends.

She moved to Kansas City in 1966 to study biochemistry. In Kansas City, Rosario met Robert Chi whom she married in 1968 and then had her first child, Neil Chi in 1969.  She eventually planted her roots in Illinois where she has another child, Amy Chi in 1975.  She lived the rest of her days in Olympia Fields, IL where she raised her two children who studied medicine.

She worked full time as a medical technologist at Oak Forest Hospital for 30 years and then part time at St Francis hospital after retirement.

Rosario’s two passions were her family and God. Rosario felt that her greatest accomplishment was raising her two children who would go on to help heal others. When her children left the home, she devoted her time to volunteering with Father Rookey. She gave communion to patients in the hospital and counseled those in need over the telephone. She also explored the world with her husband and family. She went on to travel throughout the United States, Canada, China and Europe.

Rosario also loved to laugh, cook, enjoy a good meal and go shopping. She had a way of making everyone feel comfortable and loved. She knew everyone and everyone knew her.

Rosario was most happy surrounded by family and friends. She was eventually blessed with a grandchild, Amilia, whom she would believe was a special gift from God. Rosario had a devotion to God that she shared with her family throughout her life. She shared the importance of fellowship, faith in miracles and the healing power of prayer.  Towards the end of Rosario’s life, her faith and love in God carried her through many challenges.

Rosario breathed her last breath on Nov 3, 2023 surrounded by her family. She continues to live in the hearts of all those she loved. Her laughter will remain at family gatherings and her warmth will always be felt in the home. Let us celebrate Rosario Chi, a woman who taught us to savor each bite, cherish family and have faith in God as our redeemer.

Donald “Donn” R. Pries, 87 of Chicago Heights, Illinois, passed away on October 22, 2023.

Survived by his children: Nancy (Alan) Rafferty, Gregory (Thomas Chelius) Pries, Karen (Mike) Brackin, Gary (Lynn) Pries, Kevin (Dana) Pries, Laura (Tom) Erickson and Mark (Vicki) Pries.  Cherished Papa to: Sarah (Bryan) Pearson, Anna (Nick) Harper, Megan (Brandon) Simpson, Danny (Megan) Brackin, Catie (Dan) Rodriguez, Kevin (Megan) Pries, Angela (Will) Dunnett, Grace Erickson, Scott Pries, Annabelle (Daniel Shaw) Pries.  Treasured Great-Grandfather to: Jade, Madelyn, Audrey, Hailey, Riley, Sylvia, Alyse, Dominic, Giuliana, Hudson, Lyliana, D.J., Kacee.  Also survived by brother Richard (Sharon) Pries.

Preceded in death only seven months ago by his precious Bride of over 66 years Dorothy H. (nee Valek).  Also preceded in death by his parents Roy and Camilla, his brother Kenneth (Pam), and many other extended family and friends.

Growing up bilingual with Slovak Grandparents, Donn attended St. Paul Slovak Catholic Church and grammar school on Hungry Hill in Chicago Heights where he was an altar boy.  He attended St. Willibrord Catholic High School in Chicago.  He met the love of his life Dorothy Valek in 1956 on a blind date and they married the same year.  Donn had a big passion for family traditions, frequent parties with friends and family, and along with Dorothy was a very generous host, going above and beyond to create just the right “ambiance” for every occasion.  Given the nickname “Big Daddy” many years ago, he embraced that role with much enthusiasm, for example, spoiling his grandkids with secret donut deliveries he left on their front porches.  Donn was a truck driver for Hamm’s Beer, then Roadway Express. He was a proud Teamster.  Our most special family tradition began in 1963 when he purchased a boat and soon thereafter began the annual summer vacation at the same resort in Minocqua, Wisconsin.  But the most important part of his life was his beloved bride Dorothy.  He was so devoted to her that when she was gone, so was a part of him.

Memorial gathering and mass on November 4th from 10 a.m. until the time of mass at 11:30 a.m. at Kerr-Parzygnot Funeral Home 540 Dixie Hwy. (at Joe Orr Rd.), Chicago Heights, IL 60411  (708) 754-0016.  Inurnment Private:  Calvary Cemetery, Steger, Illinois.

Charles Keith Stanfield 1945-2023

Charles (Chuck) Keith Stanfield, 77, of Crete, Illinois, died unexpectedly at home on October 20, 2023. He was born in Harvey, Illinois on December 14, 1945 to Wayne and Mary (Lynn) Stanfield, who were devoted parents that fostered Chuck’s lifelong love of learning and creativity. “Charlie” (as he was known growing up) graduated from Thornton Township High School and achieved many accomplishments. During his high school years, Chuck was an all-state pitcher and he also was a master scuba diver who was on the City of Chicago’s Underwater Search and Rescue Team. Chuck had many interests in his younger years and was always making something – anything from moonshine to underwater camera housings, which he sold to Florida fishermen (including one to Jacques Cousteau’s son).

Following high school, Chuck went on to play minor league baseball for a Chicago Cubs minor league ball team in Kentucky. During the Vietnam War he was drafted to the Army, where he served in the Signal Corps in Germany. Chuck was the Director of Engineering for B&J Manufacturing, Co. for 37 years. He worked as a private consultant and independent manufacturer in the tire retread business until the time of his death. Chuck held over a dozen patents to his name; he was known worldwide as a leader and innovator in his field. Some of his hobbies included trap shooting, firearm repair, and knife making. There was not anything that Chuck could not fix.

Chuck married the love of his life, Mary Kathleen Hlefer (Mary-Kay) on July 1, 1978. They made their home and raised their children in Crete, Illinois. Chuck coached baseball and softball for his children for many years and was known as “Coach” on the ballfield. However, “Dad” and “Poppy” were his favorite titles – his family was his life. He was an avid reader, a junk food connoisseur, and had a knack for storytelling. Chuck will be remembered as a very giving and generous person.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Mary Stanfield; a sister, Mary-Lou Stanfield; infant son, Christopher Keith; son, Mark Morgan; and nephew, David Stanfield, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary-Kay; son Scott (Barbara) Stanfield of Phoenix, AZ; daughter Pamela (Gabe) Stanfield-Tompkins of LaPorte, IN; brother David (Susan) Stanfield of Chicago Heights, IL; grandchildren Brandon and Austin Stanfield, Gabriella and Liliana Tompkins, and Morgan Stanfield; nephew Michael Stanfield; nieces Melissa Stanfield and Sunshine (Tony) Chavez; and special friends: the Desmond family and Sas (Sindhu) Kumar.
