Alan W. Bartels age 68, longtime resident of Crete, Illinois passed away August 6, 2016. Beloved husband of 47 years to Carol (nee Liesenfelt); loving father to Brooke (Chris) Joerms, Jennifer (Todd) Miller, Lesley Bartels and Amanda (Shaun) DeCamp. Cherished grandfather to Kaylie (Dustin), Alexis, Juliana, Emma, Caroline, Brice, Reid, Aden and Olivia. He was preceeded in death by his parents Welmer and Lois (nee Sass) Bartels; his sister Christine Hemm.  Survived by 3 nieces and one nephew.   Alan graduated from TF South High School and attended Purdue University Calumet. Alan has been a State Farm Agent in Crete, Illinois for 43 years.How do you sum up an amazing man€™s life who touched so many people? Alan was a great husband, father and poppa to more than just his family. He always had great words of advice and encouragement. He was a generous, kind and patient man who loved his family unconditionally. He was always up for an adventure with his daughters and grandchildren with no sweet shop unturned. He loved the Chicago Cubs and playing Texas Hold€˜Em. He was a successful businessman who was very active and respected in his community and his St. Mary Parish. He was the wind beneath his family€™s wings and their hero. He will forever be their angel in heaven.Visitation will be Thursday, August 11 from 2:00pm until 8:00pm at the Crete Funeral Home, 1182 Main Street Crete, Illinois and Friday, August 12 from 9:30am-10:00am.  Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church 227 Monee Rd Park Forest, Illinois. Internment: Assumption Cemetery, Glenwood Illinois Info: (708)672-7600.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Mary Parish in Park Forest or St. Jude Children€™s Hospital in Alan€™s name.
