Arthur E. Manwaring age 89 of Crete, Illinois went to his heavenly home and was reunited with his beloved wife Dorothy. Art is survived by his son Robert (Panthia); grandson Ryan, granddaughter Stacy, all of Crown Point, IN; his sister Wanda Shaffer of Paris, TN and his nephews Steve and Kevin.In 1942, Art enlisted in the Marine Corp and proudly served his country during WWII seeing action in the South Pacific. Upon his return he was introduced to Dorothy who became his loving wife for 68 years.Art was drawn to teaching and sports. After being a teacher and principal in several smaller districts in Illinois, he moved his family to Crete in 1966. He wore numerous hats during his tenure at Crete-Monee High School, teacher, coach and finally Athletic Director. Art co-created the Crete-Monee Pow-Pow Cross Country Invitational which became the largest meet in the country and ran for over 40 years.Art longed to see his fellow Marines and after diligent searching he organized yearly reunions of the USMC Seventh Field Depot. These Marines and their families became members of Art and Dorothys extended family.
