Cornell Idu was born in East Chicago, IN. on August 5, 1922 to Romanian parents that met here. There were three sons and one daughter. Cornell attended Washington High School and soon after graduation enlisted during WWII in the Navy and became a Navy fighter pilot and was stationed on the Hornet and participated in the armed action over Japan. Most of his working career he was with Sherwin Williams Company as an instrument engineer from which he retired. He married his first wife in 1944 and had four children. His second marriage was in 1977 and he adopted his wifes son. Other jobs included working on a golf course and working at a Nuclear power plant. He was a very accomplished artist with detailed pen and ink drawings and watercolor.He always had a kind thing to say to everyone and always wanted to make people laugh. He was a GOOD MAN. He is survived by his second wife Patricia Idu and daughters Joy Schroder of Wisconsin, Gay Skor of Wisconsin, Carol Pador of Illinois, plus his son Norman Hogveen and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Cornell died at the Mount Vernon VA Home on March 18, 2015 at the age of 92. He will now be united with his mother, father, 2 brothers, a sister, a son Terry and Cornells first wife Julie plus many other friends and relatives.Visitation and funeral Saturday, March 28 from 9AM until the time of funeral mass at 10:00AM at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Chicago Road, Illinois.
