Dominick Cannata, 74, formerly of Olympia Fields, IL, passed away peacefully on November 8th, 2023.  Born in Springfield, MA on September 4th, 1949, he was the son of the late Gaetano Sr. and Josephine (Arno) Cannata.

Dominick leaves his children Gina Clinnin and the late Kevin of Downers Grove, Jon Barlog and his wife Tracey of Orland Park, Elizabeth Cannata and her husband Michael Schroeder of Chicago, and Emily Cannata and her husband John Brelus of Chicago; his grandchildren Charlotte, Nathan, Henry, Jack and Ellie.  He is also survived by his siblings Gaetano Jr. “Tom” and his wife Nancy of Feeding Hills, MA, Anthony and his wife Karen of Cheshire, CT and Marianne Price of Springfield, MA, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Dominick was preceded in death by his two loving wives, JoAnn (Dobbin) Cannata and Mary (Markey) Cannata whom he cherished dearly.

Dominick graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA.  He received a bachelor’s degree in pre-med from Quincy University, a Masters in microbiology from Smith College and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Case Western Reserve University. He owned his own family dental practice in Chicago Heights, IL.  He enjoyed caring for his thousands of patients for over 40 years.

Dominick loved the Red Sox and the New England Patriots.  He was a brilliant man whose knowledge of trivia was unmatched.  His close friends and family used to say that he would be their “phone a friend” if they were ever lucky enough to be on Who Wants to be a Millionaire?  Dominick loved music and took great pride in always having the perfect playlist for family parties, often filled with 60’s hits.

A private celebration of Dominick’s memory will be held at a later date.  Having lost both of his dear wives to ovarian cancer, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition

Just read about Domnic’s passing. My deepest condolences to his family. I was his God father for his conformation while he was living in Springfield Mass. Sorry I did not have contact with him for many years. That would have been wonderful. We were very close as children and adolescents.
    Rest in peace
    Angelo Ferraro
