Donald F. Phalen, 84, of Beecher, Illinois formerly of Riverdale, Illinois passed away peacefully with his family and friends at his side on December 27, 2014 at St. James in Olympia Fields.  Loving husband of 59 years of Marceline (Pietsch), father of David (Melanie), Marcia Lilly (Gary), Mark (Sandi), Daniel (Laurie), Michael (Sandie), Donna King (Christopher), Donna Phalen (daughter-in-law), and Donald J. (Rose).  He was the proud grandfather of 20 and 2 step grandchildren.  Great grandfather of 8.  Brother to Mary Kathleen of Sauk Village, brother-in-law to Betty Phalen of Lansing, Loretta Cosman and Jerome Pietsch of Beecher.  Fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his son Douglas Phalen, brothers James and Michael Phalen, and his parents Gloris and Edward Phalen.Donald was born in Grand Forks, ND, and moved to Harvey, IL in 1942.  He attended Thornton High School class of 1949.  He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954.  He was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant.  Donald retired from Inland Steel in 1990 after 31 years.  Donald served the community as a manager and coach of Dolton/Riverdale Little League for 13 years.  He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and current member of the Elks Lodge in Highland, Indiana Lodge #981.  He is a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Monee, Illinois.Visitation Tuesday, December 30 from 3:00PM until 9:00PM at Crete Funeral Home, 1182 Main Street, Crete, Illinois. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 10:30AM at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Monee, Illinois.  Interment: Private.   Information 708-672-7600.
