Obituary
Doris was a beautiful woman on the inside and outside who throughout her life displayed
immense strength and resilience. Doris will be joyfully remembered by her family for so much.
She played many roles in her life to many different people. She was a devoted daughter to her
parents George and Sadie. She was a special sister to her two sisters Marie and Rachel. She was
a fun, sweet aunt to many nieces and nephews. She had spent over 50 years with the love of her
life Ernie. Doris and Ernie shared incredible devotion to each other and loved one another
profoundly. Doris was a proud mother to her two children Greg and Kim. She loved her two
children with all of her heart. She was an incredibly caring and fun-loving grandmother or
“Nanny,” as she was called by her four grandchildren: Bridgette aka Bee, Jack aka Birdie, James
aka Jimbo and Mary aka MeMe. Her grandchildren will always cherish memories of their
Nanny’s fun loving nature and her immeasurable love. She was always there for her
grandchildren without a thought. In 2018, Doris became a great-grandmother with the birth of
her great granddaughter Natalie. In 2022, she had another great-granddaughter born, Lucy. When
Doris was around her great-granddaughters she was in awe over them. She would talk about how
beautiful, cute and sweet they are. She was genuinely so happy in the presence of Natalie and
Lucy. The times Natalie and Lucy have spent with their Nanny are incredibly special and will
forever be treasured. Doris was a fantastic dog mom as she owned many animals throughout her
life. She loved all of her animals deeply and they loved her just as much. Her love of animals
was lifelong. She would say, “Dogs are little children in fur coats.” Any opportunity to help an
animal or love on an animal she would surely take it. If a dog was present you could guarantee
she would pick up that dog and put him/her on her lap and they would be so loved. For a long
time, Doris and Ernie along with their mini dachshund Taffy would go to the forest preserve and
hand feed the deer. Doris thought they were beautiful gentle animals and she looked forward to
her daily interactions with them. Doris had a goofy, wonderful sense of humor that her family
will always remember. She had a wonderful joyful laugh that would make another person happy
just to hear. Her facial expressions while she found something funny were the best! She was such
an animated and lively soul. She could find humor in many situations. Back in the 90’s Michael
Jordan era, Doris was a huge Chicago Bulls fan! She would get very into the games and wouldn’t
miss watching one. She adored John Paxson, who was #5. He was her favorite on the team!
Doris loved the NBA and spent many years enjoying the games. She liked to wear her NBA
jerseys and Bulls shirts. One thing Doris absolutely loved was getting together with her family
and enjoying good food. She looked forward to holiday meals and appreciated the hard work put
into every meal made. She thoroughly loved her daughter Kim’s cooking and had a special
fondness for her lemon squares. Even though Doris was a phenomenal cook, she hated cooking!
She had so many specialty dishes that her family will forever miss. Among these specialty dishes
were: Nanny’s pizza bread and spaghetti. Some of Doris’ favorites included fried chicken and
pizza and she loved fast food! She loved iced tea and whatever she was drinking she always
would have a straw- always! Doris made the world’s best pineapple upside down cake. Nanny’s
mouthwatering cake was a major part of every thanksgiving and Christmas. She would always
claim, “it didn’t turn out that good.” In reality it was a 10 every time. Doris valued looking her
best always. In her younger years, she wore fashionable gorgeous clothes. Her makeup was
consistently perfect and never complete without pink or coral lipstick. Her nails and toenails
were always painted. She wore nice jewelry and maintained her hair nicely. Her family will
always remember her incredible beauty. She instilled the importance of looking your best and
taking care of yourself to her kids and grandkids. Doris loved discussing and watching politics.
She always kept on top of the latest political news and events. Doris’ favorite movie was Driving
Miss Daisy. It was one of the few movies she would sit down and watch. In her later years, Doris
would accompany Ernie at his car shows where they met with old friends and made new friends.
No matter if you called her, Mom, Nanny, Aunt Doris or Doris she left you with special
memories of her to treasure. She would want her family to remember the fun everyone had with
her and all the love she made them feel. “If love could have saved you, you would have lived
forever.”
In lieu of flowers donations to South Suburban Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
