James H Watson, Jr.

01/03/1938 - 04/10/2021

Funeral Home: Crete Funeral Home 1182 Main Street Crete IL (Map-it)

Cemetery: Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery 6001 West 111th street, Alsip, Illinois (Map-it)

James H. Watson Jr.  age 83 resident of Crete, Illinois passed away on April 10, 2021. Loving husband to the late Kathleen (nee Kerrigan) 2010. Beloved father to James III (Kimberly) Watson, David (Deborah) Watson, Mary Anne (Michael Matchinis), and Joseph Watson. Cherished grandfather of 10 and great grandfather of 6.   Jim preceded in death by two sisters Dorothy Tobuch and Eleanor Olson.  Jim was born and raised on the South Side of Chicago where he met and married, at the young age of 19, his wife and life partner Kathleen Kerrigan.  Partnering with his father in the used auto parts business, Jim escalated ABC Auto Parts from a “junk yard” to one of Chicagoland’s largest automotive recyclers.  Jim was fortunate to work alongside all four of his children and many of his grandchildren.  Jim’s grandchildren describe Jim as “winning the jackpot when it comes to grandparents”.  To his children he was their father, mentor and friend. To those closest, Jim will be remembered for his model marriage to Kathleen, wise words of wisdom and the importance he placed on family, not to mention his passion for his business where he worked 6 days a week for his entire life.  Sundays were dedicated to faith and family.  We will miss him every day but he will live on when we host our family talent show at Christmas, when we sit in the corner booth at RL’s, when we play cards and when we bring our dollar pads to Vegas.

Due to the current circumstance and restrictions caused by Covid-19 we ask that you please follow the state’s guidelines where masks/ face coverings and distancing are concerned. On behalf of the family and the funeral home staff, we would like to thank you for your cooperation.

Visitation Thursday, April 15th  from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. at Crete Funeral Home, 1182 Main St. (Dixie Hwy.), Crete, IL. Funeral Mass at 10AM, Friday at St. Liborius Church, 35th & Halsted Blvd., Steger, Illinois.  Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, IL. Info:  (708) 672-7600.  In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to University of Chicago, c/o Shanda Lentz, 5841 Maryland Avenue, MC 6092, Chicago, IL  60637 for lung cancer research.

Condolences

Jim, or “Grandpa Watson” as my sisters and I always called him, was just such a wonderful man. He always treated my sisters and I like his extended grandchildren. He was always there for the big moments in our lives and I will always remember him as the loving, adoring, big personality that he was. I will miss him greatly. Rest in peace Grandpa.

    Dearest Cousins,

    Jimmy, Mary, David and Joey,

Thank you for sharing your wonderful father with me. He was the “jackpot” for uncles, as well, an encourager, supportive and he modeled and reflected a deep respect and love for his family.

    Love,
    Maureen
