Obituary
It is with profound sadness that the family of Joel Grossi Sr. announces his passing after a heroic fight with stage four cancer on February 19, 2021.
Joel was born in Chicago, IL on November 10, 1945, to Frances and Robert Grossi. He attended Marian Catholic High School in Chicago Heights, IL and graduated from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA. While working three jobs and raising a family, he earned a Master’s degree in Education from DePaul University.
He will be lovingly remembered by his students, faculty and staff at Crete-Monee School District. He proudly dedicated over 30 years of his life to being a beloved Teacher, Assistant Principal and Administrator. Joel impacted the lives of so many, and his legacy will live on through his students.
Joel was known for his devotion of faith, love of family, the intellect of a genius, and having the quick-witted ability to converse with anyone on any subject.
He married the love of his life, Terri Koza, on November 28, 1983. His love for his wife and children was unmatched.
Joel is survived by his mother, Frances Grossi, and is preceded in death by his father, Robert Grossi.
He is also survived by his children, Brian (Nikki) Rzyski, Ben (Megan) Rzyski, Joel (Sarah) Grossi, Samantha Grossi and Bill Petty, her fiancé; six grandchildren Brian, William, Ethan, Reid, Tilly, and Aubrey, four Brothers; Timothy (Vickie) Grossi, Paul (Toni) Grossi, Greg (Lori) Grossi and Andrew (Peggy) Grossi; and one sister, Roberta (Michael) Kamradt, along with nieces, Kimberly Grossi, Kathy Faso, Laura Longo, Andrea Grossi, Amanda Grossi, Patti Grossi, and Jackie Kamradt; nephews, Paul Grossi, Timothy Grossi, Alex Grossi, Michael Kamradt, Danny Grossi, and Adam Grossi. Joel is also survived by his beloved wife’s family, Kathrine Simpson (Thomas Parochelli), Jane (Angelo) DeAngelis, MaryAnn (Garry) Rooney, Linda (Thomas) Husum, David Koza (Ronna Laveille) , Diane (Liam) Carey, James (Donna) Koza, along with her nieces, Christie, Nicole, Katie; nephews Jeff, Eric, Jamie, Joe, and Colin.
Visitation will be held at the Kerr-Parzygnot Funeral Home, 540 Dixie Highway, Chicago Heights, IL, on Friday, February 26, 2021, from 3:00 pm to 6:30pm, private family service 6:30pm to 7:00pm.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, unfortunately due to Covid the mass will be family only.
