Joseph T. Montena “Joey/JoJo” age 28 of Monee, Illinois passed away unexpectedly on May 4, 2024. Joey was born on July 9th, 1995, to a loving family in Upstate New York.  His childhood was spent playing with friends around the neighborhood with his older sister and camping with family in the Adirondack mountains. In 2003, Joey moved to Illinois with his mom and sister.

Everyone that had met Joey loved him and he loved them back so much. He was spirited and always enjoyed spending quality time with those closest to him. Joey was the most loving and forgiving soul to the people in his life. If anyone ever needed an ear to listen or a hype man when they were feeling down, Joey was that person.

JoJo will always be the favorite son of Jacqueline Dwyer (Kendall) Case and Thomas (Denise) Montena. And forever the favorite brother to Lauren Dwyer, Rachel Case and Allyson Case. Beloved grandson to Joan (late James) Dwyer and Marie (late Bud) Montena. Joey leaves behind his aunts, uncles, cousins and many loving and close friends.

Memorial gathering on Monday, May 13, 2024 from 2:00 P.M. until time of service 6:00 P.M. at Monee Funeral Home 5450 Wilson St. (at Governors Hwy.), Monee, IL.  Info: (708) 534-0016. Moneefuneralhome.com

Joey was one of the only friends to come send me off for prom back in 2012. I didn’t have much support back then. He was always a shining light. He exuded kindness and love. I’m so sorry to hear about his passing. I send my condolences and love to the family and friends.

Jackie and I got to meet in Washington DC at a work event, and we shared stories of our kiddos, We found our boys are just a few months apart in age. I will be holding Jackie and her family up in thought and prayer as she and her family navigate this tremendous loss. Hold all the good memories close and let them comfort you on the hard days. Wishing for peace in your hearts.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I met Joey in Jr high and remember the times we would play in my backyard with my 2 younger brothers after school. He was always known to be so kind and sweet. My heart goes out you all because knowing Joey for only that short amount of time made an impact and made many memories of a great friend.
