Leonard Burdette HagenLen was born 09/16/1931 in Chicago, IL and passed away peacefully in the company of his daughters on 02/14/2016 in Dyer, INHe was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Margaret (nee Orr), and his mother and step-father Helen and Stephen Montvidos and his father Kenneth Hagen.He grew up in Chicagos Roseland neighborhood. In 1948 he joined the U.S. Army and served in the 2nd Division in Korea where he earned a Purple Heart. In 1953 he married Marge and started a family, first residing in Calumet Park until1969 before moving to Crete where he was a resident for 46 years. He was a journeyman plumber for 38 years and was a member of Chicago Journeymans Local 130. He was a lifetime member and past commander of the American Legion Post 1156 as well as a Mason and a member of Orak Shriners of Michigan City and South Bend Valley of Scottish Rite. Len served the Village of Crete for many years in many capacities including deputy Building Inspector, Coordinator for Crete ESDA, a member of the Architectural Advisory Board and Animal Control Officer. He was the Plumbing Inspector for the Villages of Crete and Frankfort for many years and was the first Tri-county Illinois Plumbing Inspectors Association president. An avid Harley-Davidson motorcycle and Corvette enthusiast, he loved to ride. He was a friend to many, a good neighbor and a loving father and grandfather. He will be sorely missed.Survived by his three daughters Peg Tegtmeyer of Crete, Mary (George) Heisterman of Romeoville, IL and Carol (Art) Coulter of Burke, VA. Nine grandchildren, Michael (Mareike) Tegtmeyer, Margie (Dave) Killoy, Andrew (Georgette) Heisterman, Jeri Tegtmeyer, Lynn (T.J.) Love, Katie Coulter, Matthew Heisterman, Tim Coulter and Dylan Coulter and 17 great grandchildren.In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.Visitation Wednesday, February 17th from 2:00PM until 8:00PM at the Crete Funeral Home,1182 Main Street, Crete, Illinois.
