Lori Jo Lorig (nee Stein), age 62, of Crete, Illinois passed away at home on June 5, 2024. Dear daughter of Donald Stein, beloved mother to Gregory (Bethany) Lorig, Christopher Lorig and Katie Lorig (Jeff Jagusch). Adoring grandmother (Nana) to Luke and Brooklyn Lorig. Preceded in death by her loving husband Alan, mother Myrna (nee Buchanan), and brother Steven.

Lori was a lifelong resident of Crete, Illinois. She attended Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Schools, and Crete-Monee High School. There she formed dear lifelong friends who have been with her through all phases of life. She grew up knowing the importance of family and built so many strong bonds with her brother, her cousins and her aunts and uncles.

Lori fell in love with Alan at the age of 16 while working at Seehausen’s grocery store. Alan was 21 and working at Seehausen’s during the summer while attending Upper Iowa University to earn his accounting degree. After 4 years of dating, Lori married Alan on September 4, 1982. She attended Eastern Illinois University and Governor’s State University where she earned a Bachelor’s Associate Degree in Elementary Education. Lori and Alan built an amazing life and strong roots together in Crete.

Lori became a mother at the age of 22, when she gave birth to Greg. As the family grew with the addition of Chris and Katie, it became clear one of Lori’s gifts was being a mother. She has been recognized as a second mom to numerous friends of her own children. Her house was always welcoming, a hug was always available, and guidance and encouragement was ever flowing. The bonds and pride she had with and for her children’s friends was truly something special.

In the midst of raising her children, Lori taught at Crete Elementary School for four years before becoming a full-time mom. As the years passed, Lori became intimately involved in countless school and church activities and ministries. Lori was a force and all-in on everything she did. She was dedicated to Lutherans for Life, Booster Club, Christian Women’s Leadership Circle and serving on various other church and school committees. She helped establish Trinity Lutheran Church’s

Personal Member Ministry (PMM) as its Coordinator from 2008 to 2015.  Utilizing the core principles of Trinity’s PMM, Lori founded Faith Unleashed Consulting in 2015 to equip and empower Christians to actively live out their unique design and calling in their churches, communities, and everyday lives. Lori was quickly recognized by many throughout the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) as a subject expert and became an instrumental part of transforming churches and believers throughout the Midwest and the far reaches of the country. As a strong woman of faith, Lori has inspired countless women and men to become leaders in their churches, schools, families, and communities.

Lori LOVED to host parties and entertain family and friends at her homes in Illinois and Michigan. Lori was a reliable and loving daughter, mother, grandmother, niece, aunt, cousin, and friend that could be counted on. She had a way of making you feel special, even if you barely knew her. She brought out the best of everyone. Whether you needed a hug, someone to talk to (perhaps longer than you expected) or were just looking to share a meal or cocktail, Lori would make it happen.

Lori was a light in this world amongst the darkness, reflecting her love for her Savior. Her positive attitude and knack for listening and communicating with anyone about anything has profoundly impacted so many people. She has been a rock for her family, friends, church, co-workers, and clients. She loved to read the Bible, Christian literature, and all sorts of books, soaking up information and insights like a sponge. She used her unique life experiences and knowledge to provide deep, meaningful advice to friends and family. In the same way, she knew when to lean on others for help and advice during difficult times, always falling back to her trust in God and his promises. The loss of Lori will leave a deep void in this world, but we know that void will be filled by the light of Christ reflected by those Lori was honored to have known and loved.

Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. – Psalm 25:4-5.

Visitation is Thursday, June 13th from 3 PM to 8 PM at Crete Funeral Home, 1182 Main Street, Crete, Illinois.  Service and additional visitation will be on Friday, June 14th from 10 AM until the time of service at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church 1393 Elizabeth Street, Crete, Illinois.  Burial to follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Crete, Illinois.  Info:  708-754-0016.

Greg, Katie, and Chris- everything you said was spot on! Lori was a force and had a heart as big as they come. I was privileged to finally meet her, after people telling me for years that I needed to get to know her! These last few years of PMM and Faith Unleashed have been a blessing to me and our network of PMM coordinators. More than that, your mom became a personal and treasured friend. She could even go toe to toe with Jim and leave him smiling! We both appreciate her spunk and deep love for the Lord and his people. Now that her earthly purpose is filled, we look forward to the sweet reunion of believers in heaven. You and your families are in our thoughts and prayers! Hugs! With so much love, Marilyn and Jim

Alan and Lori were 2 of the best people this world has seen. Both were committed to family church and the betterment of all. Lori will be missed as a caring and loving mother grandmother and contributing member of Trinity and the grace and benefit of society in this challenging world.
