Services will be held Saturday, March 18 for Matthew R. Schoenbeck who lost his two and a half year battle with traumatic brain injury on Friday, March 10th, following a construction accident at his home in Beecher in July of 2014. The service will be held at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, 1604 Main St., in Crete, IL, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Lon Kuether officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery in Crete. Matthew was born June 19, 1979, in Kankakee to Lloyd & Patti (Reichert) Schoenbeck of Monee. He was baptized at St. Paul’s UCC in Monee and reaffirmed his baptism thru his confirmation at Zion in Crete. Matt graduated from Crete-Monee High School in 1997 and went on to the University of Illinois Champaign Campus where he graduated in 2001 with a BS from the College of ACES. He worked for ADM in Burlington, IA and St. Louis MO until he decided to come back to the Monee area in 2003 and continue his career in farming with his dad. Matt purchased a farm in Beecher and moved there in 2005. Matt was active in the farming community with various organizations and served as Chairman of the Will-South Cook County Farm Service Agency at the time of his accident. Matt applied and was accepted to the Illinois Ag Leadership Program in 2010 in which the class he was in went many places and held events for educating the public on agriculture. They made trips to Chicago, Peoria and Springfield in Illinois, Washington DC, China and India. Matt was a die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears and College Basketball leaning towards his Alumini, the U of I. Matt played league volleyball in the summer months as well as enjoying spending time on his boat with friends. Besides his parents, Matt is survived by his sister, Sarah Kelley of Monee. Also mourning his passing are nieces, Katie & Autumn Schoenbeck of Momence, Karlie and Mackenzie Kelley of Dongola; and nephews, Dustin & Jacob Schoenbeck of Momence and Ty Kelley of Monee. He is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins who will greatly miss his beautiful smile and teasing personality. Matt was a best friend to many. Matt was preceded in death by his brother, Michael in 2013; His grandparents, Elmer and Dorothy (Jarmuth) Reichert, Raymond Schoenbeck, Edgar and Shirley (Piepenbrink) Koehn; Uncles Chuck Hasse & Rich Reichert; Aunt Nancy Reichert; and cousin, Jeff Reichert. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, 1604 Main St., in Crete and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the Zion Church or to family’s wishes. Pallbearers are: Dave Groebner, Chuck and Steve Hasse, Brad Heldt, Kevin Koehn, Josh Reading and Mark Riegel. Honorary Pallbearers are his Godparents Sonny Bartolini, Tina Hodgin and Jim Schoenbeck along with his Godchildren Eric Groebner, Dustin Schoenbeck, Karlie Kelley, Kolton Koehn and Ari Heldt.
