John Gabrisko Age: 77, longtime resident of Chicago Heights, passed away on April 24, 2026. He was the cherished son of Joseph and Pauline Nee Surjan Gabrisko. John was the loving brother of the late Joseph (d. 2018) and Paula (Robert) Gabrisko-Mendoza. Known affectionately as Uncle Johnny, he will be deeply missed by Cristin, Lucas, Lauren, Mike, R.J., Audrey, Maddie, and Emmie. He was also the beloved Papa to Brandon and Hunter. John’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

Olivia Jo Zimmerman Age: 22, Resident of Crete, passed away on April 15, 2026. She was the treasured daughter of Joshua Zimmerman and Abigayle Smith, and the devoted sister of Sophia Zimmerman, and devoted companion to Frank Strzebonski. Olivia was a talented artist whose creativity and warmth touched everyone she met. She will be remembered with love and deeply missed.

Gayle Edith Letke (nee Marsh) Age: 79, Resident of Beecher, and a former 30-year resident of Glenwood, passed away on April 8^th, 2026. Beautiful daughter of the Late Dwain D. Marsh and Jean Marsh (nee Michel). Loving Wife to the Late Richard Letke. Beloved Mother of Raymond Douglas Letke, and Dianna Jean Letke-Cramer. Cherished Grandmother of Madelyn Cramer, Caitlyn Cramer, and Alyssa Letke. Loving Sister to Garry (Grace) Marsh and Dwain “Scooter” (Carol) Marsh.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Doug Marsh (Linda). She will be missed by her many loving Nieces and Nephews. Gayle was a retired schoolteacher who dedicated her career to the Glenwood and Homewood school districts.

Gayle was the cherished matriarch – the heart and soul of her family. Her life’s legacy was rooted in showing up for others with unwavering love, strength, and devotion. Deeply centered on family, she found joy in game nights, holidays, movies, and exploring history, especially through researching her family tree. Gayle had a generous spirit and a natural kindness, always going out of her way to do thoughtful things for those around her. To her family and friends, she was nothing short of our superwoman—selfless, dependable, and always putting others before herself.

Lisa K. Nieland (nee Fregeau) age 32 of Kankakee, Illinois passed away after a long battle with stage 4 breast cancer on March 17, 2026.  Loving daughter to Kevin and Barbara (nee McComas) Fregeau.  Beloved wife of 7 years to Kyle (Firefighter/Paramedic Monee); two beautiful daughters Evelyn (5 yrs) and Laura (2 yrs).  Dear sister to Austin (Gina) Fregeau.  Lisa worked as a Teacher’s Aide for Special Ed Children.  

Lisa was a lover of reading and collecting books. She loved sitting in her sun room reading while the kids played. Her favorite season was fall and couldn’t resist a fire in the fireplace. She loved to be comfortable. Lisa loved spending time with her children most of all. She was kind and caring to every person she came into contact with.

Lisa will be missed immensely by her family and friends who loved her so much.

Joan Lillian Rubin (née Koelling) passed away on March 11, 2026, in Munster, Indiana. She was born on January 28, 1957, in Frankfurt, Germany. She was adopted in 1958 by Martin and Lillian Koelling (née Hartmann).

Joan married the love of her life, Thomas Rubin, Sr., on December 15, 1978. They were married for 45 years until his passing in 2024. She worked as a client service associate for Morgan Stanley for over 25 years, in addition to assisting her husband in his business ventures. She was a devout member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crete, and enjoyed volunteering there in various capacities, as well as singing in the choir. She also enjoyed musicals and spending time with her family and friends.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Sarah Rubin and Hannah Rubin; stepchildren, Michelle Pierce, Thomas Rubin, Jr., and Dana (Michael) Zastrow-Letts; grandsons, Ricky (Ashli) Pierce and Casidy Zastrow; great-grandchildren Tatum Pierce and Oakley Pierce; brother, Ralph Koelling, and sister, Janice Miller; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Lillian, and her husband, Tom.

Visitation will be at Crete Funeral Home on Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 2-8 pm. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crete on Friday, March 20, 2026, at 11 am, with visitation from 10-11 am. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
