Obituary
Paul Hugh Swope of Crete, IL passed away September 13, 2016 at the age of 96. He was born on December 6, 1919 in Chicago Heights, IL, the third of four boys born to Reverend J. Bannen Swope and Margaret Yeager Swope. He grew up in Chicago Heights in the house where he was born on Vincennes Street, next to the Trinity Lutheran Church where his father was the pastor.Paul graduated in 1938 from Bloom Township High School and in 1942 from Carthage College in Carthage, IL before heading off to World War II where he served as a captain in the Army Air Force.Paul is survived by his wife of 73 years, Joan, his children and their spouses Paul F. (Joanne) Swope, Margaret J. (Herb) Swope Maraat, and James E. (Penny) Swope, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. His parents and three brothers preceded him in death.Paul was a devoted husband and father and life long member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (formerly Trinity Lutheran) in Chicago Heights, IL. He retired from the National Weather Service after 43 years of service as a meteorologist.
