Sophie M. Szkola (nee Gral) age 73 of Steger, Illinois passed away suddenly by a heart attack on March 27, 2024.  Loving wife of nearly 45 years to Piotr; beloved mother to Paul (Christine) Szkola, Samantha (Dan) Cravens and Thomas Szkola. Beautiful sister to Chris (Donna) Gral and the late Barbara Monczynski.  Cherished aunt to the late Matthew (Renee) Monczynski, Nicole (Rick) Krueger, Nathan Monczynski, Sabina Szyller, and many other nieces and nephews in Poland. Great Aunt to Filip, Natalia, Ashley, Richie, Will, & Tyler. Recently found connection with Ann (John) Arch and their children Bryce & Emma. Considered a second mom by countless friends of Paul, Samantha, & Thomas.   Sophie was ahead of her time attending college for multiple certifications, working in computer technology at Prudential prior to her children, and then became one of the first female mail carriers for the Chicago Heights Post Office.  Sophie can easily be remembered for her kind and accepting soul, as well as her baking skills which she generously shared with all. For the past 10 years you could find her galavanting at Chicago Bears games, Blackhawks games, concerts, and many wrestling events with Thomas & his friends.  Preceded in death by her parents Jan and Jadwiga (nee Szumidlo) Gral.

My condolences to all of you. Sophie was one of my best friends. She was so sweet to everyone. From day one at the post office she treated me as if she had known me my whole life. She will be missed.
