Thomas Earl Rubin, Sr. passed away on February 15, 2024, in Crete, Illinois. He was born on August 30, 1946, in Chicago Heights, Illinois, to Earl and Betty Rubin (née Schwinn). After a brief stint in the Navy, Tom worked as a concrete foreman for 20 years, as well as running his own wood shop. Later, he also ran a successful firewood business. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, doing jigsaw puzzles, and watching sports – especially the Chicago Bears.

Tom is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joan (née Koelling); children Michelle Pierce, Thomas Rubin, Jr., Dana (Michael) Zastrow-Letts, Sarah Rubin, and Hannah Rubin; grandsons Ricky (Ashli) Pierce and Casidy Zastrow; great-grandchildren Tatum Pierce and Oakley Pierce; sisters Lorraine Rubin and Christine (Roy) Hennick; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as siblings Earleen Wilder, Dorothy Armstrong, and David Rubin.

Visitation will be at Crete Funeral Home on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 2-8 pm.

A funeral service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crete on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11am, with visitation from 10-11 am. Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Crete.
